2009 Upcoming Shows in ABS- CBN

When we talk of TV network here in the Philippines, though, without having the intention to do so.. We always tend to compare GMA 7 and ABS- CBN. Not only in terms of the quality films and shows that they both cater but migth as well, their celebreties. We can’t deny the fact that channel 2 holds a lot of celebreties nationwide. For 55 years, this network already proven a lot!

ABS- CBN provided us a lot of various TV shows for 2008 that were all, somehow, been a  part of our lives now. And this coming 2009, here are the Kapamilya Shows that you’ll surely can’t afford to miss!!!

2009 New GMA TV Shows

Filipinos really love to seat back and relax while watching their favorite TV shows and telenovelas, may it be in GMA 7 or in ABS- CBN channel 2. Great TV series like LOBO (stars Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual), MARIMAR (Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes) and so many more really hit  this year. No wonder why we really got varieties of shows to choose from. Both networks are really doing a hard work just to give us the most spectacular show that we couldn’t imagine we can watch in out televisions. But here comes 2009.. What can we expect this time? Are they gonna give us something like Indiana Jones TV Series? Well, I think, if we did watched out for the new shows this year, we must make the excitement double for the next year. And in fairness to GMA, they are now showing more competence with the stars that they have and was still able to develop more talents and performers accross the country. The said network is now much ready to face the real challenge of providing timeless service and entertainment to the people and at the same time, develop the network even more.

For GMA 7, they go for the  so- called Timeless Tales that You’ve Never Seen Before. These are the five new shows on GMA for the first quarter of 2009:

PAANO BA ANG MANGARAP?

Under the direction of a very well-known expert Joel Lamangan,  this will star Starstruck 1st season winners Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras who will be reunited as a love team in this GMA soap and remake of the classic movie.  Hero Angeles, Star Circle Quest 1st season sole winner will join them.  Supporting casts include Tirso Cruz III and Bing Loyzaga.

ANG BABAENG HINUGOT SA AKING TADYANG

This could be the last project of controversial and top-rater love team Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. Based on a graphic novel by Carlo J. Caparas, “Tadyang” will be helmed by Bb. Joyce Bernal. 

ALL ABOUT EVE

All About Eve will feature PMPC Star Awardee for Best Supporting Actress Sunshine Dizon and International Emmy nominated Iza Calzado for another Philippine remake of the hit koreanovela. Their leading man could have been Diether Ocampo but later replaced by Richard Gomez. Supporting casts include Pangako sa ‘Yo stars Jean Garcia and Eula Valdez. The other male lead will be revealed soon. 

TOTOY BATO

Enough for 2008’s Juaquin Burdado, for 2009, another Carlo J. Caparas classic, Totoy Bato will be adapted to television and will be played by none other than Robin Padilla with his requested leading lady, Asia’s Song Bird, Regine Velasquez. Manny Pacquiao will also star in this tv series to be directed by Mac Alejandre.

ZORRO

So much for the Koreanovelas for thew year 2008, for 2009, GMA bought the rights to adapt the Mexican legendary fencer for Philippine television. And who’s gonna play the lead role? None other than GMA top leading man, Richard Gutierrez. His new leading lady will be announced soon.

Karylle is More Sexy Now that She is Single (Bench Billboard and the Smile)

After her break-up with Dingdong Dantes, Karylle has taken steps to show the world how being single means sexier in her case. She just came from singing the country’s national anthem before Pacquiao’s big fight in Las Vegas, and recently, unveiled her daring picture in a Bench Billboard. And of course, the biggest thing she did after herbreak-up was to “flash that knowing smile” at Boy Abunda (The Buzz) after the latter asked if Marian Rivera was pregnant. You’ll never know how much a smile would mean to some people.

34th Metro Manila Film Festival: December 25 to January 5 (List of Films, Schedule and Awards Night)

The Metro Manila Development Authority continues organizing the Annual Metro Manila Film Festival, which is expected to run from December 25 to January 5, 2009. Unlike last year wherein there were two batches of films shown in the cinema, the first is on December 25 and the next one was January 1, this year, all eight official entries will be simultaneously shown on Christmas Day.

For the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival, these locally produced film will be shown all over the Philippines for ten days. The official entries were composed of four comedy films, two drama movies, a horror trilogy and an animated film.

Films in competition in Metro Manila Film Festival 2008 are:

ABS- CBN Shows and Stars Ranked No. 1 in the 2008 Anak TV Seal Awards

The Anak TV Seal Award is given by the Southeast Asian Foundation for Children and Television for kid-friendly TV programs and personalities who are considered to be good influence on children. The winners are determined through a survey in which the respondents are all children.

And on this year, 22 kapamilya stars and 24 kapamilya shows (ABS-CBN and Studio 23) are recognized in this year’s Anak TV Seal Awards. On the other hand, 20 Kapuso shows (GMA and QTV) and 7 kapuso stars also received recognition this year.

Marijuana Arrest in Dubai, Kamikazee’s Guitarist Led Zeppelin Tuyay Arrested at the Airport

Last December 4, Kamikazee’s guitarist Led Zeppelin Tuyay was reportedly arrested in Dubai International Airport after authorities found suspected residue of marijuana/ weeds in his luggage shortly after their arrival. The band was there for their rock concert titled “Rakrakan Fest” together with some of the hottest rock bands in the country today, Bamboo, Pupil, and The Dawn which was sponsored by ABS- CBN Middle East. However, the rest of the guys still made it though the incident happened. If found guilty, he will be banned from entering United Arab Emirates might as well serve jail time.

Nowadays, the Middle East Government is keeping an eye on Filipino performers since Gary Valenciano, Philippine’s Mr. Pure Energy experienced the same trouble at the Qatar airport. The good thing there is, the singer was not detained for anything illegal or commiteed a crime or having the same marijuana issue, he singer just lost his passport. And after considering his status as a former Unicef ambassador, Gary V. was then released by authorities and was then given a temporary permit.

Actor Marky Cielo Dies In His Sleep (Dead at Age 20)

We just got the report and press release from GMA Channel 7 saying that one of their young actors, Starstruck 2007 Grand Winner Marky Cielo, was found dead in his sleep today, December 7, 2008 at 10AM in their residence at Antipolo, Rizal. Marky’s mother brought him to the hospital as soon as they have found him, but it seems it was too late as Marky was pronounced dead on arrival.

The reason for or cause of Marky’s death is not yet known, and the family wishes that the matter be kept private in this time of great sorrow. Why would such a good young actor suffer from something like this? For now, let’s respext the fanily’s wishes and pray for them and Marky.

UPDATE : Pacquiao Wins Over De La Hoya via 8th Round TKO

Oscar De La Hoya was unable to handle Manny Pacquiao’s speed and power and the Golden Boy’s corner threw in the towel before the 9th round begins (8th round TKO) just minutes ago at the MGM Grand Arena. The Pacman landed 59% of his punches to 21% of De La Hoya. Pacquiao emerges as the winner. More words on the updates later on.
