Efren Penaflorida is CNN’s Hero of the Year

As I always tell to my co-volunteers … you are the change that you dream as I am the change that I dream and collectively we are the change that this world needs to be.” – Efren Penaflorida

This is what the CNN Hero of the year, Efren Penaflorida said as he elatedly accepts the award. After garnering the most number of votes during the 7 weeks of voting at CNN.com, Efren bested nine other nominees from different countries.

Penaflorida started a “pushcart classroom” to bring education among the children of Cavite particularly those from the slums. To know more about Penaflorida’s story, click here.

Our hero received $100,000 that he could use in continuing his pushcart classroom project together with the Dynamic Teen Company.
