We need not go very far for our first feature.? In just under three months, these guys from Batangas were able to take the world of music by storm.? In October, they were the #43 Most Subscribed Musician in Youtube with over?300?subscribers and about 250,000 video views.? ?They have also been?linked from several credible?sites like?the official website of Switchfoot (see the article here) and just recently?in Yugatech, the premiere Filipino blog (see the?write-up here).? Right now they have over 150 songs on Youtube averaging?a total of 5000 views or more every day,?and their site statistics are?through the roof due to?massive links from youtube, metacafe, and decent post rankings on search engine keywords in Google and Yahoo.? This is such the case?that in mid-October they had to upgrade their bandwidth limit to ten times what they have initially signed up for.? And yep, they are proudly Filipino.
?They go by the now branded name GuitarTutee.?
Yuga, the father of Philippine blogging as some?would call him, said that the idea?behind GuitarTutee is?”simple yet novel,” which?I think is the exact definition of a good invention.?
Basically,?what GuitarTutee does is to provide high quality recorded videos of popular songs?while they are being played on the guitar.? This was their first “mission–”until they found it necessary to provide lyrics, chords, and tabs as well that a website was immediately rolled out.???A little history may be necessary here, and what better way to do it than through their videos.
The first hit was?an original?by Chris Ramos Wong, which was requested through their wordpress hosted website.?? An interview with GuitarTutee reveals their surprise at how far they have now?come?looking at?that old site.? Anyway, here’s the video mentioned, which is currently their no.2 most viewed in Youtube.
Midway through all the postings, some people requested for specific songs to be sung.? This one got a lot of great reviews on the?old website and the hype was carried over to the new one.? See their cover of that popular song from Music and Lyrics.
Later on more idea was pitched in by regular GT visitors and they decided to invite artists to sing for them.
And the story ends and begins again with what you see on their website now.
Asked what prompted them to put up the website and what they will attribute as the greatest factor for their success, here’s their reply: “It’s really all the idea of helping people out there who want to play the guitar, but who don’t have anyone to guide them on the how.?? Right now we’re not even earning from the website and are merely surviving through small donations from some good people, but the money is not that big of a consideration.? What’s important is that we’re making a difference for other people, and they’re not just Filipinos.? This is our way of telling the world how good we are and that we can help in some way, and we’ll be dedicated to the?attainment of our goals whatever happens.”
