Little Big Star Champ’s Time To Shine

Fans of Sam Concepcion would be really proud of their idol with this news. The Little Big Star sensation will finally make his mark overseas with his rendition of the latest flick from Dreamworks.
Sam Concepcion has been chosen to perform the theme song of the upcoming animated feature, Kung Fu Panda. DreamWorks, the Hollywood movie outfit that created Kung Fu Panda, handpicked Sam from a batch of hopefuls to sing the song in its local release.
Sam’s achievement also makes him the first Filipino artist to have sung a theme song for the US-based film company owned by critically acclaimed director/producer Steven Spielberg with partners Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen.
The young singer said that Universal Records informed him to come up with a demo tape performing the movie’s theme song Kung Fu Fight. “So I made the demo, kinanta ko po and them we gave it to United International Pictures,” he shared. “Then they (UIP) sent it to Dreamworks and then yon, the office of Steven Spielberg approved the song kaya exciting po talaga.”
His rendition of the song will be played during the end credits of the film in its Philippine release this coming June. “It is a rare occasion for a Hollywood movie to have a local artist sing in the soundtrack album. This is the ABS-CBN talent’s first international recording break, and he truly deserves it,” said Selina de Venecia, United International Pictures’ general manager.
Sam’s interpretation will also be included in the movie’s Asian soundtrack album, which will be distributed in the Asian region. Korean pop superstar Rain (last seen in Speed Racer) has his version of the theme song included in the album and for the movie’s Korean release.
